Dwell by Mel Ashby and Lisa Matthews
“…Their shoreborne bodies will never know alone / only know home / Home. Home. Home.” (Lisa Matthews)
Launch of an exhibition of paintings and words.
On the island of Menorca, the most easterly of the Balearic Isles, is a once lovely house in a state of collapse – a white-walled sea-dwelling that stands among cacti, succulents and wild olives – looking out over a sparkling azure cove. The house is surrounded by cliffs pitted with ancient caves where the islands’s Bronze-age inhabitants brought their dead to mourn, to bury.
This place is the setting for a unique collaboration between artist Melanie Ashby and poet Lisa Matthews, as they return again and again, to uncover and discover a dwelling place for the living and the dead, beginning and ending. They invite you to an evening of sunlit words and poetry and the ensuing exhibition inspired by “Solita”.
Opening poetry event and a glass of Pomada (Menorca’s lemonade with gin)
17th January, 6.30 – 9pm
Exhibition runs from 19/01/25 – 16/02/25, open to the public each Sunday between 2pm and 4pm and during other events
