Double Vision: A Unique Artistic Collaboration Between Lorna Fellas & Julie
Hamer
Double Vision is more than just an exhibition-it’s a dynamic dialogue between two distinct artistic perspectives. Curated by two exceptional artists, Lorna Fellas BA (Hons) and Julie Hamer BA (Hons), this exhibition delves into themes of duality, creativity, and how two artists can interpret the world in uniquely different ways. The concept of “seeing through two different lenses” lies at the heart of their collaboration, influencing not only their individual works but also the exhibition’s design itself.
The Double Vision poster embodies this partnership, featuring two distinct images-one by Lorna and the other by Julie. Each image offers a separate viewpoint, yet together they form a cohesive narrative, showcasing the essence of their collaboration: two artists, two interpretations, and one powerful outcome.
At the core of this exhibition is the tension and beauty found in Lorna Fellas’ and Julie Hamer’s distinct approaches to abstraction. Though both artists explore abstract themes through multidisciplinary techniques, their artistic practices are distinctly personal.
Lorna Fellas uses texture and form to explore complex emotional landscapes. She blurs the lines between drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography, embracing the multidisciplinary nature of her work. “Drawing in two and three dimensions is critical to my practice,” she says. “It allows me to develop and explore ideas further, and it also serves as an end in itself.” Her art delves deep into the emotional realms that emerge from everyday experiences, often blurring the boundaries between the tangible and the imagined.
Julie Hamer, on the other hand, creates abstract works driven by what she calls “An Inner Essence.” Her process is intuitive, emerging from a perceptual experience of the world. Her subjects often evoke moments in time-particularly landscapes captured through layers of color and light. These layers convey movement and fluidity, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a dreamlike space where reality bends and morphs into abstraction.
Despite their contrasting approaches, both artists find a common thread through abstraction. In this shared space, Double Vision comes alive-showing how distinct artistic voices can converge to create something greater than the sum of its parts. The exhibition not only reveals the beauty of two different perspectives but also challenges viewers to question their own perceptions of reality. The abstract nature of the works opens up a multitude of interpretations, offering as many meanings as there are eyes to see.
Lorna Fellas and Julie Hamer are both established artists, whose works are held in collections across the UK and beyond. Their collaboration in Double Vision invites us to witness the interplay of their unique perspectives, pushing the boundaries of abstraction and offering an immersive, thought-provoking experience for all who engage with it.
